DELTA LAWMAKER SPEAKS AGAINST GENDER IMBALANCE IN THE POLITY

Isoko south constituency two representative in the Delta State House of Assembly, Honourable Ferguson Onwo, has spoken against gender imbalance in the polity.


Honourable Onwo, while playing host to a delegation of Olomoro Gallant Women Association during a courtesy visit at the Delta State House of Assembly Complex in Asaba, promised to remain gender friendly in all his activities.


The Lawmaker, who is the Chairman, House Committee on Housing and Women Affairs, said he would remain steadfast in his support for women in politics.


Honourable Onwo recalled the role of women in the 2019 general elections, stressing that his landslide victory in the election was not without the support of women.


While advocating a more friendly environment that would encourage women’s participation in politics, the state legislator pledged to be fair to all humans, irrespective of sex or political interest.


Earlier, the leader of the group, Chief Stella Ejeh, decried the gross gender imbalance in political appointment at all levels of governance, stressing that the women deserved a better deal in view of their numerical strength and activeness in the electoral process.


She, however, expressed optimism that with Honourable Onwo as a member of the Delta State House of Assembly and Chairman House Committee on Women Affairs, things would get better for the women.


The highlight of the visit was the presentation gift to the Honourable Onwo.
