The Delta State Waste Management Board has warned that it will not condone indiscriminate dumping of refuse in any part of the state.

The Chairman of the Board, Honourable Emma Chinye, gave the warning on Saturday while monitoring the state monthly environmental sanitation exercise in Asaba.

Honourable Chinye said there were enough Private Sector Participants engaged by government to pick waste from residential apartments and businessmen premises, and advised residents of Asaba and the environs to register with the PSPs as failure to do so would attract appropriate sanctions.

He also advised the PSPs to live up to their responsibilities as the Board would not hesitate to withdraw the operational permit of anyone found not to be meeting up with the task of clearing the refuse in his assigned area of operation.

The Waste Management Board Chairman, who supervised the clearing of the illegal waste dump on ICE road, said steps would be taken to monitor the axis to prevent further dumping of refuse on the road.

At the Abraka market end of the state capital, Honourable Chinye frowned at the filthy condition of the market and announced that the Board would soon embark on the demolition of illegal structures in front of the market.

He said the Board under his watch would want to instill the culture of cleanliness on residents of the state and would carry out aggressive sensitization campaigns to keep the people abreast of the consequences of not keeping their environment clean, particularly indiscriminate dumping of waste.

Chinye said a central Environmental Sanitation Task Force would soon be set up by the state government to enforce the relevant environmental laws and urged residents to have a positive attitude towards their environment to avoid unpleasant consequences.
