The festering crisis in Uzere, Isoko south local government area of Delta state, which prevented the community from holding its August 2019 conference has been amicably resolved.
This is contained in a report on the crisis by the Chairman of the Isoko south local government, Honourable Itiako Ikpokpo.
In the report, endorsed on his behalf by the Secretary to the Local Government, Honourable Dennis Obrogo, the Council Chairman said the issues that led to crisis were resolved in a security meeting held at the council Secretariat in Oleh.
Honourable Ikpokpo said trouble started when a group ” Uzere Good Governance ” wrote a petition accusing the President General of the community, Engineer Felix Enwenede and former President General, Mr Columbus Oguname, of not following due process in their dealings, fraud and other misconducts.
The Local Government Chairman said the allegations led to the disruption of the conference slated for August 30, 2019 by Uzere youths.
He stated that after considering the development and its security implication, the Council, in conjunction with security agencies, decided to suspend the August conference to avert a break down of law and order in the community, pending the resolution of the issues that led to the crisis.
Honouranle Ikpokpo said he summoned an enlarged security meeting with top Council officials, representatives of security agencies, the executive of Uzere community, ex-Presidents General of Uzere community, members of the Uzere Good Governance group, representatives of the three quarters in Uzere, among others, with a view to nipping the crisis in the bud.
After a fruitful deliberation, it was resolved that the President General of the community, Engineer Felix Enwenede, should work closely with his executive committee; that the President General should liaise with and consult all stakeholders on issues bordering on the development of Uzere community; that the Freedom Fighters group in Uzere should be disbanded and that the community’s Vigilante group should be properly coordinated and strengthened to work with police in maintaining peace and order in Uzere.
It was also agreed that the N20,000,000 (Twenty Million Naira) meant for youth empowerment programme in the community was not properly handled by the President General as such monies were released to the youths in the past to manage.
All those who had reported cases relating to the crisis to security agencies were asked to withdraw them immediately; while the contentious Twenty Million Naira should be shared in a manner that would accommodate the youth empowerment programme, the burnt youth bus, Uzere men, women, the executive of Uzere community and the consultant, Mr Columbus Oguname.
