The Delta State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal on Friday, September 20, 2019, dismissed the petition filed before it by the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief Great Ogboru, for lack of merit.
The three man panel, led by Justice Suleiman Belgore, in its judgement, held that Chief Great Ugboru and his party failed to prove allegations of over voting and mass irregularities in the governorship election beyond reasonable doubt.
Reacting to the judgement, Senior Political Adviser to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, Honourable Funkekeme Solomon, said the petition could best be said to be dead on arrival because the victory of Governor Okowa was overwhelming in 23 out of the 25 local government areas of the state.
Honourable Solomon, who dedicated the victory to God, said it was a reaffirmation of the mandate freely given to the Governor and commended Deltans for their massive support expressed through the ballot.
He advised Chief Ogboru to stop all distractions and join hands with the Okowa administration to build a Stronger Delta state, stressing that the state needed peace and unity to attain the desired level of development.
