The member representing Isoko South Constituency Two in the Delta State House of Assembly, Honourable Ferguson Onwo is to provide take off grants for the 36 of his constituents sent to Odi in Bayelsa State on skill acquisition training in Agriculture.
Honourable Onwo announced this while receiving the trainees at his Constituency Office in Olomoro, Isoko South, on their return from the two week training program at the Bioresources Development Center, Odi, Bayelsa state.
The Lawmaker directed the trainees, who were selected from the six wards in Isoko south constituency two, to carry out feasibility studies within two weeks, preparatory to the grants.
Honourable Onwo said the beneficiaries were trained in Snail Farming, Technology in Fish Production, Macro Propagation of Banana and Plantain, Mushroom Farming and Grass Cutter Rearing, under his “Okpobrisi Sustainable Development Scheme.
He disclosed that the trainees were in stream ‘A’ of the program, emphasizing that the skill acquisition training was aimed at reducing reliance on government jobs and to create employment for the teaming youths in the Constituency, in line with the policy direction of the Okowa administration.
Honourable Onwo, who is the Chairman, House Committee on Housing and Women Affairs, expressed satisfaction with the level of commitment and zeal demonstrated by the trainees and charged them to put the knowledge acquired from the training to good use.
The Lawmaker expressed optimism of an improvement in the agricultural sector of the state as the 36 trainees were well equiped to commence operations in a very near future.
The Chairman, Isoko South local government, Sir Itiako Ikpokpo, commended Honourable Ferguson Onwo for the laudable program, stressing that it would make the beneficiaries self-reliant and employers of labour.
Others who spoke, including the Isoko south PDP chairman, Mr. Raphael Odorewu and Mr. Collins Enigheno, also praised Onwo for striving tob make the youth in the Constituency self employed.
Responding, one of the beneficiaries, Mr Alex Ukoro, expressed appreciation to Honourable Onwo for having them trained in various agricultural fields, saying that with the knowledge acquired they would establish themselves and contribute to the growth of the state’s economy.
