The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Delta State on Health Monitoring, Dr. Michael Nwoko, has said the new Specialist Hospital in Asaba is one of the best health facilities in the country and will render excellent health care service to the public if fully operational.

Dr Nwoko made the remark after being conducted round the units, departments and major medical installations at the Hospital by the Acting Medical Director, Dr Peace Ighosewe and top management staff.

The visit was part of his ongoing monitoring and evaluation exercise to Healthcare facilities in the State.

Dr. Nwoko and his team visited the pediatric, neonatal, male, female,  maternity, accident and emergency wards, as well as the Ophthalmology unit, the laboratory and pharmacy.

He was also at the world class sickle cell center built and equipped by the wife of the Governor, Dame Edith Okowa.

The SSA said the modern medical equipment at the Hospital could deliver excellent health care services to enrollees of the Contributory Health Scheme and other members of the public in line with the Universal Health Coverage policy of the Okowa administration.

He said with the huge amount Governor Okowa was investing in the health sector, it had become imperative to monitor and evaluate the health facilities for proper appraisal in order to guarantee effective health care delivery in the State.

Dr Nwoko added that his mandate also included sensitising the people of Delta State on the measures put in place by Governor Okowa to meet their health care challenges, particularly to key into the Contributory Health Scheme and enjoy the benefits.

The SSA said the Specialist Hospital was currently on a test run, and would soon become the pride of the State and serve as a reference point for other states of the federation.

Dr. Nwoko also used the opportunity to encourage Deltans to enroll for the Contributory Health Insurance Scheme, adding that enrollment in the scheme would enable them to enjoy quality, accessible and affordable healthcare service.

The Acting Medical Director, Dr. Peace  Ighosewe said the Hospital started operational test run in February 2019 and had so far been doing well with the patient load increasing on a daily basis.

Dr Ighosewe stated that most of the equipment needed for full capacity operation had been procured and that as soon as the remodeling of the buildings was completed the Hospital would commence full operation.

She appealed to the SSA to communicate the epileptic power supply  problem of the Hospital to the Governor.
