Delta State Government has condemned in strong terms the spate of xenophobic attacks on Nigerians and other foreign nationals in South Africa.

The Commissioner for Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, who spoke strongly about the unwarranted attacks while briefing the press on Wednesday in Asaba, however, cautioned against reprisal attacks as it would worsen the economy of the nation and increase the level of unemployment which had risen to an all time high.

He called on Deltans to maintain existing peace and shun every form of retaliation as it would affect Deltans and Nigerians who own and work in the business outfits being targeted for reprisal attacks.

Aniagwu described the happenings in South Africa as barbaric and unfortunate considering the role Nigeria played during the apartheid regime in South Africa.

The Commissioner noted that Nigerians were suffering in South Africa and bringing the same level of barbarism targeted at South African investments in the country would add to the problem.

He said a good number of South Africans were good, stressing that the few bad ones should not be emulated by Nigerians who might want to retaliate by visiting the same level of anger on Nigerians who had struggled over the years to set up their own personal businesses.
