Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State has admonished couples to place God first in their union to enable them to succeed.
He gave the advice on Saturday at the wedding of Mr and Mrs Nelson Eta at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Oyede, Isoko North Local Government Area of the state.
The Governor said “once you hold on to the Lord Jesus, He will bless your marriage; the only master in your home is Jesus, and first, endeavour to build a spiritual mansion.
“As you continue to hold on to the Lord Jesus, you will excel in your marriage and in whatever you do; there will be a positive change in the country and you will be part of making this country a much better place for us to live.
“The Lord is in charge; in every situation, look up to God.”
The Governor prayed for the couple, asking God to bless them and make them to know Him more.
Earlier in a sermon, the Bishop of Warri Diocese of the Catholic Church, Most Reverend John Afareha, said couples must be guided by the word of God for them to succeed.
Bishop Afareha described marriage as a holy institution, a mystery that was not for little children, but adult men and women, and a bond never to be broken.
He charged the couple to be faithful to their marriage vows, adding that they were made for each other.
“Remember to invite Jesus into your home. There may be difficulties but, with Jesus in your home, He will bring consolations, your trials will be transformed into blessings,” the Bishop said.
The groom is the son of business mogul, Chief Enahoro Eta.
