Foremost philanthropist and one time member of the House of Representatives, Honourable Prince Ned Nwoko, has described Nigeria, particularly Delta State as a home of sports with a pledged to continue to assist budding sport talents in the State to showcase their skills and rise to stardom in their chosen sport.
Ned Nwoko made the pledge while addressing the press after performing the kickoff ceremony of a football scouting trial at the Stephen Keshi stadium, Asaba.
The said the 3-day trial organised by 60 Goals Global and sponsored by the Ned Nwoko Foundation, was to identify potential football talents and assist them to get contracts in football clubs in Europe.
The former Federal Lawmaker said his Foundation recognised the fact that there were many JJ Okochas and Kanu Nwankwos out there who needed to be assisted to come to limelight and would assist such young players to exposed their talents and be useful to themselves, their families and the state.
Honourable Ned Nwoko, who is the current President of Project Tourism in Nigeria, also identified sport as one of the cardinal pillars of the organization because Project Tourism in Nigeria recognised that sports could attract a good number of tourists to the country.
The philanthropist added that the proposed Stars University, Idumuje Ugboko, Delta State, when operational, would own a football club aside offering diverse courses for sportsmen and women, to enable them to be functional in society after their active sport life.
Ned Nwoko disclosed that his Foundation was collaborating with Fulham Football Club England with a view to establishing a football academy in Delta State, where potential football stars would be properly groomed to excel in the game.
Also speaking, one of Nigeria’s greatest football exports, Ambassador John Fashanu, said playing football was a sure way to riches, pointing out that youths playing in clubs in Europe were making millions of hard currencies weekly.
He commended the Ned Nwoko Foundation for sponsoring the nationwide scouting exercise in Delta State and disclosed that the scouts were FIFA licensed agents of major football clubs in Europe, including the Spanish football giant, Real Madrid FC.
The Team Manager of 60 Goals Global, organisers of the scouting trial, Coach Alex Nwankwo, stated that the purpose of the nationwide trial was to provide a platform for young talented footballers in Nigeria to be discovered and assisted to get contracts in the lucrative European football leagues.
He thanked Prince Ned Nwoko for sponsoring the program in Delta state,
assuring that the exercise would be conducted regularly.
