The Senior Political Adviser to the Delta State Governor, Honourable Funkekeme Solomon, has called on environmental health officials in the state to make their impact felt in the society.

Honourable Solomon, who made the call on Friday when a delegation of the state chapter of Environmental Health Officers of Nigeria visited him in Asaba, said the narrative of indiscriminate dumping of refuse and filthy environment needed to change as it was impacting negatively on the people and the state.

He recalled the days of old when the then sanitary inspectors moved from house to house to inspect residential and business premises to ensure compliance with extant environmental laws.

The Senior Political Adviser noted that they were highly respected by the people because they demonstrated strong passion for a healthy environment, adding that no one waited to be forced to clean up his or her surroundings due to the stiff penalty set aside for offenders.

Honourable Solomon advised the environmental health officials to do more in changing the mindset of the people about the environment, reminding them that there were enough laws in the state to ease the duties.

He pledged the support of the state government for the association.

The President of the association, Comrade Jeffrey Obadaya, congratulated the Senior Political Adviser on his appointment and pledged the support of the body for the state government.

He appealed to government to look into the issues affecting the body.
