The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor of Delta state on Health Monitoring, Dr. Michael Nwoko, has said Governor Ifeanyi Okowa is passionate about the well-being of Deltans.
He stated this when he paid a courtesy visit to the Delta Publishing and Printing Company, publishers of the Pointer titles, where he met with the General Manager, and top management team of the Company.
Dr. Nwoko commended the management and staff the newspaper outfit for their good work in promoting the laudable policies and programmes of the state government.
He said their role in propagating the good works of Governor Okowa had helped Deltans to understand, embrace and benefit from the laudable programmes of the state government, especially the Contributory Health Scheme.
Dr Nwoko posited that the beauty of the scheme was in the simple fact that enrollees were always attended to at first point of contact and that enrollees in the scheme needed not to pay for drugs and treatment from their pockets when faced with health challenges.
The SSA added that the Contributory Health Scheme had recorded tremendous success with over five hundred thousand (500,000) Deltans currently enrolled and benefiting from the scheme.
According to Dr. Nwoko, such high figure of enrollment would not be possible without the support of the media, particularly, the Pointer Newspapers, which was why he led his team on the visit to solicit support in educating and enlightening the people on the benefits of the scheme.
Dr Nwoko used the opportunity to highlight his job schedule, which entailed monitoring and evaluation of health care facilities across the twenty five council areas of the State and bridging the gab between health care providers and the enrollees of the scheme by carrying out regular public enlightenment campaigns on the gains of the scheme.
Responding, the General Manager, Delta Publishing and Printing Company, Mr Monday Uwagwu, said he had known Governor Okowa for over thirty years as a medical practitioner who placed high premium on the health of the people
The GM added that as a Senator, Okowa demonstrated his love for the people’s wellness by sponsoring a bill for the establishment of the National Health Insurance Commission and went ahead to put his vision into practice as soon as he was elected Governor of Delta State.
He assured the SSA that the publishing company would give him all the support needed in the discharge of his duties and wished him the best in his new assignment.
