Indigenous media practitioners in the state have been asked to use their platforms to monitor the effect of government policies and  programmes on people at the grassroots and get feedback from them as a way of promoting good governance.

The Senior Political Adviser to the Governor of Delta State, Honourable Funkekeme Solomon, gave the charge when a delegation of the Delta State Guild of Indigenous Newspaper Publishers paid him a courtesy visit in Asaba.

Honourable Solomon said by their closeness to the communities, Indigenous Newspaper Publishers owed it a responsibility to educate the people on the policies and programmes of government, criticise constructively and feel the pulse of the people about the government.

He maintained that the publishers must be guided by the rules of fair hearing, leaving out when in doubt and ensuring balance of reports before going to press.

The Senior POLAD pledged the readiness of the Okowa administration to partner with all sectors, including the publishers, in order to give as many stakeholders as possible the opportunity to contribute to governance of the State.

Honourable Solomon noted that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa had shown genuine commitment to building a stronger Delta state, where love, peace, unity, equity, fairness and justice would be bequeathed to all Deltans.

The President of the Delta Guild of Indigenous Newspaper Publishers, Mr Femi Odonmeta, said the visit was to congratulate Honourable Solomon for distinguishing himself in the positions held in the past to be found worthy of his appointment as Senior Political Adviser by Governor Okowa.

Mr Odonmeta reassured the state government of the determination of the publishers to partner with it through a systematic synergy and appealed that members of the Guild be carried along in the scheme of things.
