The Senior Political Adviser to the Governor of Delta state, Honourable Funkekeme Solomon, says tradesmen in the country are eminently competent to perform to international standards.

He made the remark in Asaba while playing host to a delegation of the state chapter of the National Union of Professional Carpenters, NUPC.

Honourable Solomon said Nigerian carpenters could now build standard pieces of furniture comparable to imported brands, adding that their skill in roofing of houses was quite impressive.

The Senior Political Adviser commended the group for its role before and during the last election that saw the reelection of Senator Ifeanyi Okowa as Governor.

He assured the professional carpenters and indeed other groups that worked for the People’s Democratic Party in the last election that they would not be forgotten and urged them to continue to be peaceful, united and supportive of the Okowa administration.

Honourable Solomon restated that reward for a role in the electoral process was not all about appointment, reassuring the carpenters that the state government had put in place measures to make their trades successful.

The leader of the group, Comrade Joshua Onoriode, informed the Senior Political Adviser about the role they played in the last election and made a case for award of carpentry jobs to members of the body.

The group made a presentation of a beautifully designed portrait of the Senior Political Adviser.

The Senior Political Adviser also met with members of the Coalition of Registered Support Groups for Okowa 2019 in a bid to halt a planned protest by the group over alleged insensitivity to the role it played in the last election.

Honourable Solomon, who had earlier played host to the group in his office, reassured that it was not in the character of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to forget committed party faithful who genuinely worked for the party.

He appealed to the Coalition to be patient and allow the Governor to decide on what to do.

The group was led by the Convener, Mr Nathaniel Okhoror.
