DELTA AT 28: Okowa Greets Deltans, Affirms Better Days Are Here

Delta Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has congratulated Deltans on the 28th anniversary of the creation of the State.

In a message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Olisa Ifejika, the Governor thanked Deltans for their resilience, patience, cooperation and support for all administrations that had governed the State in the last 28 years.

He assured that his administration would continue to build on the gains recorded by his predecessors in order to build a stronger Delta .

Felicitating with citizens of the State on the anniversary, the Governor noted that Delta State had continued to blossom in spite of challenges confronting the people.

Okowa appreciated Deltans for their resilience and peaceful co-existence, pointing out that in the last four years his administration had continued to build on the gains recorded by his predecessors.

The Governor noted that through the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency, his administration had done a lot in the past four years to make Asaba and environs a befitting state capital, and had initiated measures to resolve the nagging flooding in the capital territory with a network of storm drainage system which were nearing completion, in addition to two new ones whose contracts were recently awarded.

He restated his appreciation to the people for renewing their mandate to him through a resounding victory at the last general elections, engendered by their overwhelming votes.

The Governor said with the re-election and inauguration, he had been re-energised to vigorously deliver on his administration’s SMART Agenda, assuring Deltans that with their support, he would do more.

He added that to address critical infrastructural needs in the Warri and Effurun axis, he created the  Warri/Uvwie and Environs Development Agency, adding that his  administration would continue to scale up development in rural and riverine communities in the state.

Okowa said the recent inauguration of road projects in Ijaw and Itsekiri coastal communities by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo was testimony of his administration’s resolve to build a Stronger Delta for the people.

The Governor said  Deltans had every reason to celebrate the 28th anniversary of their State as the State had remained on the right trajectory to development.

He assured that his administration would continue to operate within the principles of equity, fair play and friendship, which had largely created the atmosphere for peace and development in the State.

It will be recalled that Delta and 11 other states, including Edo, were created on August 27, 1991 by the military regime of General Ibrahim Babangida.
