The leadership of the Delta State Traders and Market Leaders Council, DESTMALC, has assured the state government of trouble free trading in markets across the state.

The President of the group, Mrs. Queen Macgrey Animona, gave the assurance when she led a delegation of the Council  on a courtesy call on the Senior Political Adviser to the Governor of Delta state, Honourable Funkekeme Solomon in Asaba.

Mrs. Animona said the body, which was founded in the state in 1999 had, through trading, contributed to the socio-economic development of the State, adding that the group had consistently supported the PDP government in the state to deliver good governance to the people.

She said DESTMALC was working towards entrenching proper representation of traders in politics at all levels and had engaged in peace building, environmental sanitation in markets in the 25 local government areas of the state and seminars to raise the consciousness of members on political matters, especially the need to shun violence in the electoral process.

DESTMALC President noted that government had a lot to gain from the group and solicited a robust partnership that would be beneficial to government and members of the Council.

Mrs. Animona congratulated the Senior Political Adviser on his appointment and urged him to  strive to improve on the performance of his predecessor in office.

Responding, the Senior Political Adviser to the Governor, Honourable Funkekeme Solomon, said the state government was interested in partnering with the group because of its commitment to peace building in markets across the state in tandem with the vision of the Okowa administration.

Honourable Solomon commended the group for helping to educate its members on the danger of political violence and for working for the Peoples Democratic Party in the last general election.

He assured the traders’ body that the Okowa administration would continue to invest in the provision of infrastructure which would benefit the people, including traders, and urged the group to ensure that peace continued to reign in all markets in the state.
