Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Delta State Governor on Health Monitoring, Dr. Michael Nwoko, has given details of his assignment.

The SSA gave the rundown while exchanging views with the Director, Planning, Research and Statistics (DPRS), Delta State Primary Health Care development Agency, Dr. Gloria Ferife, when he visited the Agency.

Dr. Nwoko told the DPRS about the need for effective collaboration between his Office and the Agencies and Commission under the State Ministry of Health to ensure the full realization of Governor Okowa’s policy of quick, quality, accessible and affordable healthcare delivery service to all Deltans.

He said Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, was very passionate about the health and wellbeing of Deltans, pointing out that his professional background was a motivating force behind his total commitment to ensuring an effective and efficient health care deliver system.

The SSA noted that the Governor had invested substantially in the health sector since assumption of office in 2015.

He listed the formulation and implementation of laudable health policies such as the Delta State Contributory Health Scheme, provision of infrastructure, medical equipment, regular drug supply and personnel to the State owned Health Facilities as areas where government had invested in the health sector, adding that Delta State was the first in the Country to officially lunch its own Health insurance scheme, thereby leaving the state with one of the best health indices in the Country.

Dr. Nwoko stated that while his Office would monitor, evaluate, appraise and make necessary recommendations to the Health Ministry, its agencies and Commission on how to improve performance to meet the expectations of Deltans, it would also sensitize Deltans on the various healthcare delivery packages made available for them by the Governor and the need for more residents of the State to enroll for the Contributory Health Scheme.

Responding, the DPRS of the Agency, Dr Gloria Ferife, said the task before the SSA was enormous, noting that his assignment would ease the Agency’s operation as his regular evaluation and reports would give a better insight into the goings on in the field.

Dr Ferife commended Governor Okowa for appointing Dr. Michael Nwoko as SSA on Health Monitoring, describing the appointment as well deserved following his brilliant performance as SA to the Governor on Health Monitoring.

The highlight of the meeting was the presentation of a comprehensive list of all the Primary Healthcare Facilities in the State and their locations to Dr Nwoko by the DPRS.
