The Delta state Commissioner for Environment, Honourable Chris Onogba, had decried the poor attitude of most residents of the state to environmental sanitation.

Onogba, who was speaking in an interview with newsmen in Asaba, noted that indiscriminate dumping of refuse and blocking of natural water ways had almost become life styles to the detriment of the environment, even with their far reaching implications.

The Commissioner said his Ministry would adopt strategic engagement of Key stakeholders to proffer solutions to environmental problems, insisting that the current level of degradation was unacceptable and should not be condoned.

He said the Private Sector Participants, PSPs would be encouraged to do better in refuse collection from residential apartments, markets and business premises across the state, while public enlightenment would be vigorously pursued to change the narrative of poor environmental sanitation.

Onogba maintained that the target was to ensure that people possessed their environment and formed the habit of treating their environment as they would treat their living rooms.

The Commissioner said a clean environment could be a booster to tourism and investment as no one would want to be associated with a dirty environment.

He spoke about plans to set up an Environmental Sanitation Task Force to enforce compliance with existing environmental laws of the state.

Onogba urged Deltans to always keep their environment clean as cleanliness is next to godliness.
