A member of the Delta State House of Assembly, Honourable Solomon Ighrakpata, has charged the Board of the Warri, Uvwie and Environs Special Areas Development Agency to quickly tackle the issues of dilapidated roads and epileptic power supply in its areas of jurisdiction.
Honourable Ighrakpata, representing the Uvwie constituency, who spoke to newsmen immediately after Wednesday’s plenary of the state legislature, said many of the roads in Warri, Effurun and environs were in bad shape and required urgent attention.
The legislator described the creation of the Warri, Uvwie and Environs Special Areas Development Agency as a welcome development, and paid glowing tribute to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for putting in place institutions that would out-live his administration.
He said the mandate of the agency was all encompassing and charged the new Board of the agency to settle down quickly for the task ahead which he described as enormous.
Honourable Ighrakpata stated that most roads in Warri and Uvwie needed to be reconstructed and rehabilitated and urged the interventionist agency to brace up as it cannot afford to fail.
He also pointed out the need to seek ways to address the epileptic power supply in the areas, maintaining that Warri and Effurun being the commercial nerve centers of the state required constant electricity supply and other basic amenities to grow.
The lawmaker said the effect of flooding in Uvwie was not as devastating on the people when compared to past years, attributing it to the massive work carried out on the drains and water channels by the State Government.
While commending the commitment of the state Ministry of Environment in that regard, Honourable Ighrakpata urged the people to desist from blocking the water channels.
He spoke on the traffic situation on the Effurun-NPA expressway being caused by petroleum tanker drivers, saying that a lasting solution was being sought to the problem.
Honourable Ighrakpata said major stakeholders, including the state government were concerned over the development and would not relent until the issue was addressed.
