Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has congratulated former military president, General Ibrahim Babangida on his 78th birthday.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Olisa Ifejika, the Governor described Babangida as an elder statesman whose commitment to the unity of the country remained resolute.
He extolled the former Nigerian leader for his leadership qualities, and acknowledged his role in the creation of Delta state and for remaining a rallying point since leaving office in 1993.
Okowa said the people of Delta would remain eternally grateful to him for the creation of the state in 1991.
The Governor said as the state looked forward to the 28th anniversary of its creation on August 27, Deltans would remember the astute and sagacious contributions of the Septugenarian towards the realisation of their dream.
Okowa noted that as a national icon and statesman, the former military President occupied a special place in the hearts of the government and people of Delta, because without his benevolence Deltans would have still been agitating for their own state.
The Governor prayed God to continue to uphold and guide IBB in all his future endeavours as he aged gracefully.
