The Caretaker Committee of the Delta State Chapter of the Radio, Television, Theatre and Art Workers Union, RATTAWU, has been told to take steps that will quickly restore sanity to the highly respected union.

The Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Delta State chapter, Comrade Goodluck Ofobruku, gave the charge at the Labour House Asaba when the chairman and members of the five-man Caretaker Committee paid him a courtesy visit.

Comrade Ofobruku said the NLC would always show concern for problems affecting any of its affiliate unions, stressing that Labour was not happy with the turn of events in the state chapter of RATTAWU and would like the Caretaker Committee to address the issues that gave rise to its coming on stream.

The State NLC chairman spoke against sit tight leadership of the affiliate unions, advising that service to union members should be the focus of every labour leader and not perpetuation in office.

He urged the RATTAWU Caretaker Committee to be fair and just in its dealings with members of the union, and assured the committee of the support of the state NLC in achieving set objectives.

Comrade Ofobruku promised to draw the attention of the Governor to the need for the state RATTAWU to participate in the Cultural Fiesta being organised by the National RATTAWU, otherwise called RATTAFEST, to be able to win laurels for the state.

The Caretaker Committee Chairman, Comrade Linus Osemene, said the visit was to familiarize with the state leadership of the NLC and to seek support for the task of repositioning the union for great exploits in unionism.

Comrade Osemene assured that the committee would always seek the counsel of the NLC in the search for solutions to the issues currently affecting RATTAWU in the state to ensure that the purpose of setting up the committee was achieved.

He said the union was interested in the RATTAWU National Cultural festival, RATTAFEST, billed to take place in Uyo in September this year and appealed to Comrade Ofobruku to assist the union in securing the sponsorship of government to enable its contingent to participate in the event.
