It was a festival of bloodshed at Ogidi in Idemili north  and Ogbunike in Oyi Local Government Areas of Anambra State on Friday, as cult clashes claimed no fewer than five lives

Although the reason for the fierce battle between the cult groups had yet to be ascertained, the police in Anambra State said their rapid response team quelled the battle that would have claimed more lives.

The Police Public Relations Officer PPRO, of the Anambra State Police Command, SP Haruna Mohammed, told our correspondent that about three persons were shot and had been confirmed dead by medical personnel at the Hospital on arrival.

Mr. Mohammed said, “It was a cult clash. They equally shot two others at Ogidi. Police Patrol Teams rushed to the scene and took the victims to Iyi-enu Hospital for medical attention but were certified dead on arrival.

Meanwhile, the Police are intensifying efforts to apprehend the perpetrators in order to bring them to justice.

The PPRO said the clash was between the Supreme Vikings Confraternity (Bagas) and some other cult groups over an alleged disagreement.

The Police are currently on the trail of suspects involved in the faceoff.
