DELTA State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has charged political office holders in the state to ensure prudent management of funds and zero tolerance for corruption in the discharge of their duties.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Boards of the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency and the Warri, Uvwie and Environs Development Agency, on Thursday in Asaba, Okowa stated that political appointees were expected to be fair, just and transparent in their dealings.
He said top government functionaries should be mindful of manifestations of graft, impropriety and corruption, in his administration’s march towards a stronger Delta.
The Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency has Chief Ighoyota Amori as Chairman and Honourable Onyemaechi Mrakpor as Director-General with Chief Adizue Eluaka, Honourable Blessing Adidi, and Dr. Isaac Wilkie as members.
Similarly, the Warri, Uvwie and Environs Development Agency has Dr. Joseph Otumara as Chairman and Comrade Ovuozorie Macaulay as Director-General.
The members are Dr. Sunny Ezonfade, Mrs. Amaka Egboro and Prince Kelly Otuedon.
Also at the event, Barrister Joseph Ojobu and Chief James Obeuwou were sworn-in as members of the State Judicial Service Commission.
According to the Governor, prudent management of resources demanded zero tolerance for any manifestation of graft, impropriety and corruption and urged the appointees to strive to live above board in the discharge of their duties as selflessness was key.
He said his vision of a stronger Delta was aimed at transforming the State into an inter-connected and united entity; which meant that all stakeholders must work hard to bring development to the people, not only to enhance their general welfare, but as a way of building sustainable peace.
Okowa said in order accomplish these onerous tasks, his administration had articulated its focus for development, adding that political appointees should conscious of their roles in the overall achievement of set goals.
The Governor warned against in-fighting amongst members of Boards as the Delta State government would not tolerate anything that would bring about needless distractions and embarrassment.
Governor Okowa, who congratulated the political appointees, disclosed that the appointment of both members of the State Judicial Service Commission was as a result of the two vacancies that arose because two members had served out their terms in office.
