The newly inaugurated Governing Board of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, has been urged to give oil bearing communities in the state value for their natural resource.

A PDP chieftain, Dr Henry Ofa, who made the call while speaking on expectations of the new DESOPADEC Board, said there had always been agitations bordering on marginalization among oil producing communities due to the impact of oil exploration on their environment.

Dr Ofa said the government meant well for oil producing areas with the establishment of DESOPADEC and had consistently funded the commission to enable it deliver on its mandate.

He advised the new Board to properly evaluate the felt needs of the communities under its jurisdiction to be able to meaningfully address their developmental challenges.

The PDP stalwart thanked Governor Okowa for his interest in the development of oil producing areas, and for putting round pegs in round holes in reconstituting the Board.

He congratulated the Chairman of the Board, Honourable Michael Diden, the Managing Director, Bashorun Askia Ogeah and the Executive Directors on their well deserved appointment.
