Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has charged the newly constituted Governing Board of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission DESOPADEC to ensure equitable distribution of projects to prevent agitations.
Governor Okowa gave the charge while swearing-in the Chairman, Managing Director and members of the DESOPADEC Governing Board, the Chairman and members of the Local Government Service Commission, and the State Auditor General in Asaba.
Addressing the Governing Board of DESOPADEC, led by the Chairman, Honourable Michael Diden and the Managing Director, Bashorun Askia Ogieh, the Governor urged them to involve the host communities in the decision making process.
While acknowledging the poor human development indices in some oil producing communities, Governor Okowa charged members of the DESOPADEC Governing Board to urgently change the narratives.
He said as public servants they should inject efficient managerial skills into the system, warning that anyone found wanting would be sanctioned.
Governor Okowa advised the DESOPADEC Board to embark on rigorous planning and stringent project execution, adding that the communities should be allowed to determine the projects that would suit their need.
Addressing members of the Local Government Service Commission led by the Chairman, Chief Joseph Otirhue, Governor Okowa said they must be guided by extant rules and regulations of the commission.
He charged them to give priority attention to staff training and development critical to optimal service delivery, adding that they should be fair and transparent in dealing with staff matters.
To the State Auditor General, Mr. Paul Aghanenu, Governor Okowa advised that he should justify the confidence reposed in him and ensure that governance management systems were properly aligned with mordern audit practice.
Responding on behalf of the appointees, the Managing Director of DESOPADEC, Bashorun Askia Ogieh, the Chairman Local Government Service Commission, Chief Joseph Otirhue and the Auditor General, Mr. Paul Aghanenu promised that they would contribute their quota to the development of the state.
