Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has emphasised the commitment of the state government to providing a conducive atmosphere that will stand Delta state out as the Nollywood hub of the country.
The Governor stated this in Oleh, Isoko south local government area, at the official investiture of Engineer Daniel Omoyibo as Patron, Directors Guild of Nigeria.
Senator Okowa, who was represented by the State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Chief Patrick Ukah, said Delta state placed high premium on the Nollywood industry because many of those in the industry were Deltans.
He noted that the movie industry had helped to take some unemployed youths off the streets thereby channeling their energies to productive ventures.
The Governor appealed to the directors to continue to make the state the preferred distination for movie productions in order to groom and nurture more Deltans in the industry.
Senator Okowa congratulated Engineer Omoyibo on his investiture, adding that it was an honour well deserved as he had contributed immensly to the growth of the industry, not just in Delta state but in the country.
He encouraged Engineer Omoyobi to continue to contribute to the upliftment of the society in order to earn more appreciation and recognition.
The ceremony, which had many Nollywood stars in attendance, was also witnessed by the member representing the Isoko South constituency One in the Delta State House of Assembly, Honourable Kenneth Ogba, his Isoko South constityecy Two counterpart, Honourable Ferguson Onwo, the President General of the Isoko Development Union, Chief Iduh Amadhe, and a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart in the state, Mr. Kindsley Erigbuem, among other personalities.
