The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Delta State Council, has felicitated with its pioneer Chairman, Chief Ovuozourie Macaulay, on his appointment as the Managing Director of the newly established Warri, Uvwie and its Environs Special Area Development Agency.

The council, in a statement issued by its chairman, Comrade Michael Ikeogwu and Secretary, Comrade Churchill Oyowe, noted that the appointment was well thought out bearing in mind the antecedents of Comrade Macaulay and his penchant for confronting challenges head on.

It placed on record Chief Macaulay’s footprints as a one time chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress which had remained unmatched in the Delta State Council, having not only brought vibrancy to labour unionism in the state but also succeeded in moving the council from a temporary office to its permanent state secretariat.

The NUJ state council also noted that Macaulay played a major role in laying the foundation of the ongoing development of the NUJ permanent press centre when he served as Secretary to the Delta State Government, SSG.

It recalled that as Commissioner for Conflict Resolution, Comrade Macaulay was instrumental in brokering peace in the Warri crisis that ended in 2004 and as Commissioner for Energy, made a mark in both rural and urban electrification in the state.

The NUJ welcome Macaulay’s latest appointment not only as a call to serve in a familiar terrain, but also an opportunity to bring to bear the excellent testimony of his capacity to deliver.

It thanked Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for the choice of Macaulay as Managing Director of the new agency and wished the MD success in his new assignment.
