Delta state Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa on Wednesday swore-in eight new Special Advisers with a charge on political office holders to avoid acts capable of portraying them as clogs in the wheel of policy formulation and implementation.
Those sworn-in are Chief Edwin Uzor, Honourable Pascal Adigwe, Comrade Mike Omens and Prince Kelly Penawou.
Others are Chief Mary Iyasere, Honourable Johnson Erijo, Honourable Daniel Yingi and Barrister Ernest Ogwezzy
Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, who affirmed that the appointments would be coming in batches, appealed to Deltans to be patient, explaining that it would not be possible to give appointment to as many as were qualified.
He, however, reminded the people that there were other avenues through which they could benefit from the dividends of democracy, adding that his administration was committed to stepping up actions in addressing the challenges of sustainable development in all ramifications to make life more meaningful to the people.
The Governor said his administration was open to constructive criticisms which would reposition it for better service delivery assuring that government would not fail the people of the state.
He said as Special Advisers they should acquaint themselves with the policy direction of government, adding that they should also use their positions to facilitate professional and technical input into the decision making process of government.
While urging the new Advisers to demonstrate exemplary leadership and carry the people along always, Governor Okowa said they should serve as bridges between the people and government in meeting their yearnings and aspirations.
The Governor admonished politicians to be friendly with the people, especially those at the grassroots, and appealed to them to explore credible means to assuage the people’s fears and cultivate understanding.
While praying God to give the Special Advisers the wisdom, courage and perseverance to discharge their duties effectively, Governor Okowa said they should align themselves with the state government’s stand against greed, corruption and mismanagement of resources.
Chief Edwin Uzor, who responded on behalf of the Special Advisers, said they were privileged to be part of the team saddled with the task of building a stronger Delta State.
He thanked Governor Okowa for finding them worthy to serve and promised that the confidence repose in them would not be betrayed.
The swearing-in of the eight Special Advisers brings to eleven the number of Special Advisers so far appointed in the state.
