The federal government has been urged to address the detoriorating security situation in the country to avert a break down of law and order.
The Publicity Secretary-elect of the Ijaw National Congress (INC) Engineer Oyakemeagbegha Ezonebi, who made the call in an interview with newsmen, said the senseless incessant killing of innocent Nigerians on a daily basis was worrisome, barberic and unacceptable.
Engineer Ezonebi, who cited Friday’s gruesome murder of the daughter of Chief Reuben Fasoranti, Mrs Funke Olakunri, by suspected herds men on the Kajola-Ore road in Ondo state, was totally condemnable and condolences with the bereaved families on the huge loss.
He noted that kidnapping, armed robbery, banditry and related crimes by herds men had assumed alarming dimensions in the past four years of the Buhari administration, describing the development as confrontational.
He said if the situation was not checked no one could guarantee the control of reprisal attacks and self defence by Nigerians, especially in the south south.
Engineer Ezonebi noted that the situation was not as bad when Goodluck Jonathan was President, pointing out that insurgency in the north east contributed to the defeat of Jonathan in the 2015 presidential election.
The INC Publicity Secretary-elect wondered why Nigerians should be subjected to unmanageable state of insecurity by their fellow citizens who have no value for life, while the government which owed it a responsibility to protect them appeared helpless and confused.
On the image of herds men on the Nigerian passport, Engineer Ezonebi described it as an insult on the Nigerian state, adding that it would only remind Nigerians the horror the herds men had put them through in their own land.
He advised Nigerians to rise against the unpopular decision and called on the federal government to retrace its step the way it did on RUGA.
