Delta State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Chief Patrick Ukah, has called on community vigilante groups to partner with the state government in securing public school facilities in the state

The commissioner made the call while inspecting some public schools in Okpanam and Obomkpa communities.

Chief Ukah, who expressed displeasure over the incessant vandalism in public schools, sued for greater cooperation from the communities and their vigilante groups to guarantee the security of educational facilities in schools in their domains.

He urged the communities to step up efforts at protecting school facilities as it had become a big challenge that must be tackled with all seriousness in view of the huge resources government had invested in providing the facilities.

The commissioner, who reiterated the state government’s commitment to developing the Basic and Secondary education sub sector in the state, stressed that the construction and renovation of public schools across the state was a demonstration of government’s interest in making public schools in the state conducive for learning.

Chief Ukah said the Okowa administration would continue to accord priority attention to education as it was key to achieving the Stronger Delta envisaged by the present administration.

The Heads of the schools visited by the commissioner assured him that they would continue to partner with the state government to ensure that the standard of education in the state was not compromised.

The schools inspected by the commissioner are Mgbala Primary school, Umebali Primary school, Oruchi Secondary school, Okpanam High School, all in Okpanam in Oshimili North Local Government Area, and Obomkpa Mixed Secondary School, Obomkpa in Aniocha North Local Government Area.
