Corps members deployed to Delta state have been asked to see themselves as agents of national development and positively impact on their host communities.

The state Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, gave the charge at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp Issele-Uku on Monday, at the closing ceremony of the batch B Stream 1 orientation course for corps members deployed to Delta state.

The Governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Higher Education, Professor Patrick Muoboghare, said the corps members should show understanding and adaptability to justify the reasons for the National Service.

He assured the corpers of the safety, warmth and hospitality of Delta state, urging them to respect the cultural norms and traditions of the communities where they would be posted to for their primary assignments.

Governor Okowa reminded the corps members that the skill acquisition and entrepreneurship training they received in camp were meant to overcome the challenges of post-service unemployment and advised them to key into the NYSC and state government initiatives aimed at deepening their chosen skills.

The Governor implored the corps members to be part of the sustainable development efforts of the state government, promising that those who would be posted to riverine areas would be visited regularly as a way of ensuring their welfare.

The State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mr Omatade Ayodele, said there was no dull moment in the three week camping, pointing out that the corps members had lectures on security, national values, drug abuse and prevention, election matters, ideals and operations of the NYSC.

Mr Omatade added that the corps members were taken through skill acquisition and hands-on training to expose them to the world of self reliance and economic survival.

He reminded them that the National uniform of the NYSC did not confer on them any undue advantage nor immunity from criminal prosecution, advising that they should shun acts that could bring their families, Alma mater, the NYSC and the nation into disrepute.
