The member representing the Aniocha/Oshimili federal constituency of Delta state in the House of Representatives, Honourable Ndudi Elumelu, has been suspended by the National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over alleged insubordination, indiscipline and disobedience.
He was suspended along with Honourable Wole Oke, Honourable Lynda Ikpeazu, Honourable Anayo Edwin, Honourable Gideon Gwadi, Honourable Toby Okechukwu and Honourable Adekoya Abdul-Majid.
The lawmakers were summoned on Thursday by the party for participating in the minority leadership tussle in the House of Representatives on Wednesday.
In a statement, the National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan, said after preliminary examination by the NWC, it was evident that the roles played by the suspended members, bordered on indiscipline, insubordination and disobedience of party, directives contrary to Section 58 (1)(b)(c)(f)(h) of the PDP Constitution.
Reacting to the suspension, Elumelu, who is the factional Minority Leader of the House, expressed shock over the development, describing the action as unfortunate.
He said he owed the PDP and its leaders a duty to advice appropriately as one of the ranking members of the House, especially as it concerned the House Rules on nomination of leaders, adding that PDP could not do it without the other eight political parties in the House.
Elumelu maintained that the decision to suspend him was taken without giving him fair hearing.
