The State Commissioner for Works, Chief James Augoye, has called on the staff of his ministry to brace up for more work in order to translate the vision of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for the state into reality before the expiration of his administration in 2023.
Chief Augoye, who becomes the first commissioner since the creation of the state in 1991 to be re-appointed as commissioner for works, made the call on his resumption of work in Asaba on Friday.
He noted that Governor Okowa desired that all on-going projects be completed and new ones initiated and solicited the support and continued cooperation of the staff just as they had done in the last four years.
The works commissioner commended Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for finding him worthy to serve again in his cabinet, stressing that it was a call to more responsibilities.
Chief Augoye explained that the ministry of works was the engine room of the state government, pointing out that it was through infrastructural development that Governor Okowa showcased his passion for Deltans.
Earlier in his remarks the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Engineer Alfred Edafioghor, briefed the commissioner on the activities of the ministry since handing over on May 24, 2019 and expressed optimism that he would use his past experience in the ministry to contribute to building a stronger Delta.
The permanent Secretary disclosed that Setraco Construction Company handling the Stormwater Control Project had connected the sewer on Delta Broadcasting Service (DBS) road, to channel the volume of flood from the Okponam axis to the discharge point to curb the incessant flooding in the state capital.
In an interview, the Director of Highways, Engineer Joshua Egube, and Director, Urban and Rural Roads, Delta North, Engineer Juliet Aboloje, assured that the staff of the ministry would support the commissioner in realizing the vision of the Governor, adding that efforts would be intensified at proper supervision of projects.
They also commended Chief James Augoye for his sterling leadership qualities, especially for the Annual Augoye Retreat Refresher training for the staff of the ministry.
