Governorship candidates of opposition political parties in the state for the 2019 election have been commended for believing in the right of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to seek reelection by galvanizing support for him during the election.
The Senior Political Adviser to the Delta state Governor, Honourable Funkekeme Solomon, gave the commendation in Asaba when he received members of the Forum of former Governorship candidates in the state who paid him a courtesy visit.
Honourable Funkekeme noted that the former Governorship candidates had to dump their respective ambitions ahead of the election and adopted the PDP candidate, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, because of their unbiased assessment of his excellent performance in the first tenure of his administration.
The Senior Political Adviser said the rotational arrangement agreed to by the three senatorial districts of the state had ensured peace, unity and progress in the state and wondered why anyone would want to truncate the smooth sailing arrangement for quest for power.
He assured the former Governorship hopefuls that Governor Okowa was appreciative of their role before, during and after the election and would ensure that the partnership with them endured for good. Honourable Funkekeme promised to run an open administration, assuring the former Governorship candidates that they would not be short changed in the scheme of things.
The chairman of the Forum of former Governorship candidates, Dr. Clark Mejebi, said the decision to form the forum was propelled by the good performance of Governor Okowa in his first tenure in office, adding that the Governorship candidates used the forum to galvanize support for the Governor to enable him continue to do well.
The forum chairman said the forum had worked for the Governor before and during the election, and would stand by him in all post election matters.
