Capital City Secondary School Awka Anambra State has emerged the overall champion in the just concluded quiz competition organized by the Sustainable Development Goals SDGs Group of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC.
The event which took place at St. John of God Secondary School Awka, attracted students from selected Secondary Schools in and around Awka, to test, and increase intellectual competitiveness among the students.
The NYSC Sustainable Development Goals Group as part of their Community Development Services, CDS, selected three schools out of the twenty Secondary Schools screened in Awka, for the quiz aimed at promoting quality education.
The participating schools were tested in Mathematics, English and Current Affairs and the keenly contested quiz saw Capital City Secondary School clinching the first position with forty-six points while St. John of God Secondary School and Agulu Awka Secondary Schools came second and third respectively.
The representatives of the schools, John Onah, Mary-Jane Ubaka and Abiola Jane, said that the competition aided their individual abilities and equally encouraged them to study harder.
The President, NYSC SDGs Group, Mr. Emmanuel John-Miracle said that Sustainable Development Goals are collection of seventeen global goals set by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015 for the year 2030 to tackle Poverty, Hunger, Health, Education, Gender Equality, Water and Sanitation, and Clean Energy, among others.
He noted that the quiz competition aimed at awaken the students activeness in school activities and provided opportunity to assess their level in academic work.
