DELTA RATTAWU CARETAKER COMMITTEE INAUGURATED WITH A CHARGE TO BE FIRM AND FAIR

The caretaker committee set up by the National Working Committee of the Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers Union, RATTAWU, to run the affairs of the Delta State Council of the union has been inaugurated.

The Vice Chairman, south south zone of the union, Comrade Christian Saro Ganale, who performed the ceremony at the Labour House Asaba on Monday, clarified that there was no crisis in the State Council of the union.

Comrade Ganale said the caretaker committee was necessitated by the expiration of the three year tenure of the State Administrative Council of the union.

He said the Comrade Bello led Delegates Conference Committee was still in place, stressing that the caretaker committee would prepare ground for a hitch free election within its three month tenure.

The RATTAWU south south Vice Chairman said the caretaker committee owed it a duty to represent the interest of the union at the state and national levels, advising that decisions must not be made without recourse to the zonal body of the union.

Comrade Ganale charged the caretaker committee to take full control of the State Council, hold regular meetings, ensure accurate remittance of check off dues and protect the interest and rights of union members. He added that the committee should be loyal and ensure prudence in financial transactions.

The Acting National Publicity Secretary of RATTAWU and ex officio member south south executive of the union, Comrade Innocent Ofuonyeadi, advised the caretaker committee members to work as a team and be focused on delivering its mandate.

The chairman of the 5 man caretaker committee, Comrade Linus Iwegbunem of the Art and Culture chapter, on behalf of other members, pledged to be firm and fair in decision making and solicited the support of the zonal office and members of the union in achieving set goals.

The occasion featured a formal handing over of power to the caretaker committee by the immediate past state chairman of the union, Comrade Onoriode Umukoro.

The tenure of the caretaker committee will expire on September 28, 2019.
