ACTDA Seals Off Illegal Structures In Awka

The Awka Capital Territory Development Authority, ACTDA, has sealed off some structures sited indiscriminately in Awka, Anambra State Capital.

Some of the structures sealed off included shanties sited under high
tension poles and cables, those situated in unauthorized areas, fences that do not meet the zero point-nine meter authorized height, and environments with overgrown grasses.

The ACTDA team led by the Managing Director, Venerable Amaechi Okwuosa, directed  residents and shop owners in the city to cut overgrown grasses around their environments within days.

From the main entrance of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital Amaku Awka, where the team kicked off to Agu Awka, where they wrapped it up with the seal–off of a cooking gas plant situated inside a petrol gas station, the ACTDA team also issued seal-off notice  to the affected sites and ordered for immediate action to be taken on them.

The ACTDA boss, Venerable Okwuosa said  that most of the affected structures and sites had
been issued warning notes by the Board prior to the day, which
most of them failed to comply.

He said the drive by Governor Willie Obiano’s adminitration to give Anambra State, especially Awka, the State’s Capital, a befitting and world class aesthetics must be adhered to by the people, and warned that the Board will not  hesitate to  sanction anybody involved in indiscriminate constructions that deface the city. 

The Chairman, Anambra state Internal Revenue Service, Doctor David Nzekwu, who was present to receive the team at the Agu-Awka axis, commended it for effectively implementing   the developmental blueprints of the capital city, and urged it to make the clamp-down a continuous action for a bigger result. 

A resident of one of the affected structures, Mr. Chika Akabogu, said
the government’s intervention, as challenging  as it could be seen by the those affected was necessary if Awka must attain the dream height.
