Okpanam road is one of the strategic routes in the Delta state capital territory, linking Asaba to the neighbouring Okpanam community.
The road bears heavy human and vehicular traffic on a daily basis due to the large number of workers and other categories of persons living in Okpanam.
The state government took the bold initiative to dualize the road to ease the traffic congestion usually associated with it.
This good intention of government has suffered major set backs due to the failure of the contractor handling the dualization project to deliver.
The contracting firm, TRATRIX, is not only moving at a snail speed, but has been accused by some of the road users of using substandard materials for the job.
The supervising authorities have also been accused of coniving with the contractor to deliver a shoddy job that will not stand the test of time.
The consequence of this is that whatever the contractor claims to have done is washed away by flood whenever there is a heavy rain.
Some motorists and other road users who spoke appealed to the state government to call the contractor to order and ensure close monitoring of the project.
This will reduce the hardship faced by users of the road and ensure value for government’s huge investment on the project.
