Anambra State Government has applauded the European Union EU and the World Health Organization WHO for supporting the state in organizing the National Health Workforce Review, Cleaning and Validation Workshop.

The appreciation was conveyed by the Commissioner for Health through the Acting Permanent Secretary, Dr. John Ndibe, during the workshop in Awka.

Dr. Ndibe noted that the EU through WHO, in collaboration with the Health Ministry had been trying to develop the state’s human resource for Health database, which had been a critical issue for a long time.

He said to validate the database, Heads of Departments and all other stakeholders from different health institutions, Ministry of Health and the Primary Healthcare Development Agency should ensure that the entries made were correct.

The Project Manager, EU and WHO Health System Strengthening, Mr. Ndubuisi Oji, noted that the health workforce challenges were global.

He recalled that states were given the mandate to develop health workforce to enable the Federal Government to know the number of workers in the state, where they would be deployed to work, their qualifications and other relevant information.

Dr. Ndibe observed that the exercise would enhance the distribution of health workforce to the primary, secondary and tertiary health institutions.
