Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state has said that his new cabinet will consist of a good number of youths and experience politicians and technocrats to ensure the building of a stronger Delta state.

Governor Okowa disclosed this on Monday in Asaba at the swearing-in of the new Secretary to the Government of Delta State, SSG, Mr Chiedu Ebie.

He said he was good to go with the appointment of men and women with a good understanding of the workings of government, and emphasized that appointment into his cabinet would be strictly on merit, and geographical spread as against political patronage, emotions and sentiments.

Governor Okowa advised the new SSG to be guided by equity, fairness and justice in the discharge of his duties, stressing that sectionalism and nepotism must be avoided because of the importance of the Office of the SSG in the scheme of things.

The Governor urged Ebie to focus on consolidating the achievements of the past of years of his administration and initiate reforms and innovations that would add value to the system and quicken the actualization of a stronger Delta state.

While reassuring that he would maintain an open door policy, the Governor enjoined the SSG to always be calm and give the people the opportunity to benefit from the policies and programmes of government.

He expressed confidence in the capacity of the new SSG to deliver and commended the former SSG, Festus Agas, for his loyalty and contributions to governance.

Responding, Mr Chiedu Ebie thanked the Governor for finding worthy to serve as SSG and promised to bring his experience to bear in the discharge of the duties of the office.

Mr Chiedu Ebie, a Barrister at Law and immediate past Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, is the 11th Secretary to the Delta State Government since the creation of the state in 1991.
