Andy Ruiz Jr, Saturday night at the Madison Square Garden New York, recorded an upset knocking down Britain’s Anthony Joshua four times to take the World Boxing Association, International Boxing Federation and World Boxing Organisation titles.
Ruiz came into the fight as a massive 20-1 underdog, but won midway into the seventh round when the referee stopped the fight at a minute twenty six seconds of the round after the fourth knock down.
The astute boxer, who was sent to the canvass once, knocked Joshua down twice in the third round and twice more in the seventh round.
Joshua had a massive height and reach advantage as he weighed in a chiseled 268 pounds compared to the portly Ruiz who weighed 250.
Riuz, who has won four fights in a row, looked fearless and poised while Joshua, who had won all 22 of his previous bouts never seemed to recover from the first knock down early in the third round.
