Delta state Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa and his Deputy, Bartister Kingsley Otuaro, Wednesday May 29, subscribed to the relevant oaths to flag off his second term in office.
The event, which was well attended by Deltans from all walks of life, took place at the Stephen Keshi stadium Asaba.
In his post inaugural speech, Okowa, who went down memory lane, recalled that he inherited a state that was lacking in many respects which challenged him to think outside the box for solutions to the immediate and problems of the state.
He said the need to give the state capital the desired facelift prompted his administration to transmit an executive bill for a law to establish the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency and another for the establishment of the State Technical and Vocational Education Board to the State House of Assembly.
Governor Okowa noted that while the State Capital Territory Development Agency had given impetus to infrastructural upgrade in Asaba in the past four years of his administration, the Technical and Vocational Education Board, through the six technical colleges in the state focussed on skills acquisition to give effect to the wealth and job creation programme of his administration.
The Governor said 19 more technical Colleges would be established in the next four years to bring the number to 25, making it one in each of the local government areas.
He stated that his administration was anchored on fiscal discipline and prudent management of resources, which largely contributed to the successful implementation of the SMART Agenda aimed at ensuring Prosperity for All Deltans.
Governor Okowa said his first tenure witnessed the construction of about 300 roads of over six hundred kilometers with over 300 kilometers of drains, while over 20,000 youths benefitted from the job creation programme of his administration.
While promising to build a stronger and more united Delta, the Governor thanked the people of the state for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to continue to provide purpose leadership that would give every part of the state the sense of belonging.
He said his inauguration was a covenant between him and the people and not just a constitutional requirement.
