DTSG INTERVENES IN UMUSADEGE-OGBE COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP CRISIS

The state government has directed that all pending court cases relating to the leadership crisis in Umusadege-Ogbe community in Ndokwa west local government area be withdrawn and a reconciliation process put in place to restore peace to the community.

The directive is part of the resolutions taken at a meeting between the parties to the crisis and the Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Peace Building and Conflict Resolution which took place in Asaba on Monday.

It was also resolved that the current constitution of the community should be amended in line with present day realities, and that the Constitution Drafting Committee to be set up should comprise of representatives of all the constituent families in the community.

The meeting agreed that Chief Sunday Enu should be coopted into the executive of the Community’s Development Committee to serve as secretary, while the parallel CDC chairman should step down for the duly recognised chairman, Chief Felix Onwubolu.

Sterling Global (SEEPCO) CACC was directed to continue to work with Mr Bonny Peters in all matters concerning the community, while Mr Peters should carry everyone along in the scheme of things.

It was also agreed that the positions of High Chief of the community and the secretary have been declared vacant and that a fresh election should be conducted within one month to chose their replacement, following due process.

The resolution asked the Okpala Uku of Umusadege-Ogbe to grant unconditional pardon to all persons sanctioned in the community to facilitate the reconciliation process.

At the end of the meeting the parties expressed their delight at the outcome and commended the state government for its intervention.

They promised to abide by the resolutions taken.
