British Prime Minister, Theresa May, has announced her decision to resign as British Prime Minister.
She announced today that she will quit as the leader of the ruling Conservative Party and Prime Minister on June 7.
Ms May has been battling to get the British parliament to agree to her Brexit deal for the UK to quit the European Union.
She said she had done her best to honour the 2016 EU referendum result where Britons voted to leave the EU, adding that it would remain a matter of “deep regret” that she had been unable to deliver Brexit.
Ms May said it was “in the best interest of the country” to get a new Prime Minister.
Her exit would pave the way for the ruling Conservative Party to choose a new leader who would assume office as Prime Minister.
Ms May is the second female Prime Minister of the UK, after Margaret Thatcher.
