The Delta state sovernment is to substantially increase the number of beneficiaries of the Widows Welfare Programme in the second tenure of the present administration.
Outgoing Commissioner for Special Duties, Government House, Dr. Henry Sakpra, disclosed this in an interview with journalists in Asaba.
Dr. Sakpra said not less than five thousand six hundred and seven widows drawn from all the wards in the state were already benefiting from the monthly five thousand naira stipend and free medicare under the programme.
He noted that Governor Okowa had put modalities in place for the continuation of the programme in his second term in office, emphasising that only vulnerable widows would be registered in the programme.
Dr. Sakpra said Governor Okowa had established a strong connection with the grassroots through the appointment of ward liaison officers who informed the people of government’s policies and programmes and how they could benefit from them.
Speaking on the State Secretariat project which commenced in November 2017 under the supervision of his office, the Special Duties Commissioner said the project was seventy percent complete and would be delivered in December this year, ahead of the scheduled date of January 2020.
Dr. Sakpra thanked Governor Okowa for giving him the opportunity to work with progressive minds in contributing to the development of the state and appreciated Deltans for their support throughout the first tenure of the present administration.
