It was an emotional outing on Tuesday for members of the Delta State Executive Council as Governor Ifeanyi Okowa called them to a valedictory session as the curtains fall on the first tenure of his administration.
Governor Okowa, who is also the chairman of the Council and his Deputy, Deacon Kingsley Otuaro acknowledged the unbetrayed confidence of Exco members in his administration
In appreciation for their diligence, the Governor directed the Commissioners to continue to perform their duties until Friday when they were expected to hand over to the Permanent Secretaries of their Ministries.
He recalled with nostalgia the activities of his administration in the last four years, appreciating members of the State Executive Council for their loyalty to him and his Deputy, Deacon Kingsley Otuaro.
The Governor said he was exceptionally happy that government was able to meet the needs of people at the grassroots, especially the riverine communities and promised to do more in the next four years.
He attributed the success of his administration to robust policies, financial discipline and a realistic budget performance, pointing out that he had learnt alot from the robust contributions of members during Exco meetings, especially when deliberating on memos.
While thanking Deltans for their support for government, Governor Okowa appealed for more cooperation in his second tenure with an assurance of new people-oriented policies and programmes after his inauguration.
In their remarks Secretary to the State Government, Honourable Festus Agas, Head of Service, Mr Reginald Bayoko and Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Honourable Joyce Overah, said Governor Okowa had taught them teamwork, informed decision making and having a listening ear.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Community and Social Development, Reverend Omatsola Williams, and Energy Commissioner, Newworld Safugha said Governor Okowa’s ability to prudently manage the state’s resources at the peak of economic recession was worthy of commendation.
For their part, Water Resources Development Commissioner, Sir Fidelis Tilije, Health Commissioner, Dr. Mordi Ononye, and the Commissioner for Commerce and Industries, Barrister Mary Iyasere said the open door policy of the Governor helped to dispel rumours and made them to focus on the task of developing the state.
