A section of the Agbarho community, in Ughelli north local government area of Delta state, has staged a peaceful protest in Asaba over the sacking of the Osuivie of the community, Samson Owhe the first, by some indigenes opposed to his reign.

The protesters, mostly women, took their disenchantment with the development to Government House, the State House of Assembly and Delta Broadcasting Service all in Asaba, calling for justice to the matter.

Mr Lawrence Atiyota and Mrs Mercy Ejiroghene who spoke on behalf of the protesters condemned the sacking of the monarch, describing it as sacrilegious and calling on government to intervene.

They noted that the action of those against the king was not in the interest of the Agbarho community, stressing that the Osuivie remained their duly recognised traditional ruler having been presented with a Staff of Office by the state government.

The protesters said no effort would be spared to ensure the return of the Osuivie to his throne as anything to the contrary would be lawfully resisted.

They maintained that a new king could only be enthroned upon the death of the reigning ruler, insisting that there was no justification for the revolution against the Osuivie.

When contacted, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Peace Building, Conflict Resolution and Rural Development, Chief Edwin Uzor, advised the protesters to remain calm and thanked them for their peaceful approach to the protest.

Chief Uzor said the state government was on top of the matter and would act accordingly at the appropriate time to restore normalcy to the community.
