The Lagos state command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) will tomorrow commence a special patrol code named “Operation Show Your Drivers’ Licence”.
The Sector Command, in a statement signed by Ms Florence Edor, a Superintendent Route Commander and Acting Sector Public Education Officer, disclosed that the two-week special patrol is aimed at addressing the high incidence of driving without the permanent valid drivers’ license in Lagos.
The FRSC attributed the ugly situation to the refusal of most motorists who applied for licenses to go back to the licensing offices to collect their permanent license, pointing out that a total of 64,468 permanent drivers’ license had yet to be collected by their owners across the state.
Meanwhile, the Lagos Sector Commander, Hyginus Omeje, has frowned at the attitude of some persons driving without valid license which is the only legal document that permits anyone to drive on Nigerian roads.
The Sector Commander reminded motorists that a fine of N10,000 awaits any offender who cannot produce the drivers’ license within 24 hours.
