The Executive of the Delta state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has congratulated Mr Monday Uwagwu on his emergence as the new General Manager of the Delta Printing and Publishing Company Limited (DPPCL), publishers of the Pointer Newspapers.

In a statement signed by the Chairman of the Council, Comrade Michael Ikeogwu and Secretary, Comrade Churchill Oyowe, the council said the process that led to the choice of Monday Uwagwu was rigourous, painstaking, but transparent. The statement described Mr Uwagwu as a seasoned and thorough bred journalist with both editorial and managerial capacity to take the Pointer Titles to greater heights, given his excellent antecedent.

While calling on other eminently qualified persons who vied for the position of the General Manager and staff of the DPPCL to collapse into one united body with Mr Uwagwu for the overall good of the outfit, the council enjoined the new GM to submit himself to the wisdom of God in the management of the company, saying that only divine guidance gives assurance of good leadership.

The Council commended Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for the appointment of an insider for the position of the General Manager of The Pointer, thereby restoring the hope of staff of the organization in rising through the ranks to the topmost position.

While urging the Governor to consider more of its members for appointment in the new State Executive Council that would soon be constituted, NUJ Delta pledged its unalloyed support for the Okowa administration.  Meanwhile, NUJ Delta, has also congratulated Pastor Malcolm Oteri who has been appointed by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as Acting General Manager of Delta Broadcasting Service (DBS), Warri.

The state NUJ said Pastor Oteri was a newsroom guru, adding that the appointment could be likened to a square peg in a square hole. It called on the management and staff of DBS Warri to join hands with Pastor Oteri to steer the activities at the service to greater heights.
