The Warri, Uvwie and Environs Special Development Agency Bill 2019 has been passed by the Delta State House of Assembly .

This followed the presentation of the report of the adhoc committee on the bill by its Chairman and Majority Leader, Honourable Tim Owhefere at Thursday’s  plenary presided over by the Speaker, Honourable Sheriff Oborevwori.

Honourable Owhefere said the House constituted the adhoc committee after the bill passed the second reading on the floor of the House.

He said the intention of the bill was to attract more development to Warri, Uvwie and the Environs in order to restore the lost glory of the oil city and its neighbourhood.

The Majority Leader said the bill would also tackle the environmental challenges facing the areas in line with the provisions of the bill and commended Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for the executive bill.

The Deputy Majority Leader, Honourable Oboro Preyor moved for the House to receive the report for further consideration, which was seconded by Honourable Efe Ofobruku and unanimously adopted.

Thereafter, the Majority Leader, Honourable Tim Owhefere moved separate motions for the House to suspend order 12 rules 77, 78 and 79 to enable the House take the third reading and pass the bill.

The motions were seconded by Honourables Dennie Omovie and Oboro Preyor and adopted .

The Speaker Honourable Oborevwori thanked members for their commitment to the passage of the bill, saying that when signed into law it would impact positively on the lives of the people of Warri, Uvwie and the environs.

Speaking on the passage of the bill, the member representing Uvwie in the House, Honourable Efe Ofobruku said the proposed law when operational would stimulate economy activities in Warri, Uvwie and the environs as more projects would be embarked upon while decayed infrastructure would be fixed.

He said development in Warri and the environs took a plunge in the wake of militantancy in the area which saw many oil companies relocating, stressing that with the proposed law there was hope of their return to add value to the  economy of the area.

Honourable Ofobruku noted that the proposed agency would not  duplication the functions of DESOPADEC as the commission’s mandate was strictly for oil producing areas.
