The remains of Late Bridget Ogheneovo Orukamayan, mother of the first lady of Ethiope West local government area, Mrs Eseoghene Golley have been laid to rest in her hometown Okurho Ogharefe in Ethiope West Local government area of Delta State.
Late Bridget Orukamayan was buried amidst tears from her children, grand children, siblings, in-laws, admirers and members of the Catholic community from Sapele and Okwetolor in Okpe local government area.
At the grave side, Reverend Father John Iyekoya prayed God to grant her soul eternal rest.
This was followed by the traditional dust to dust rite before the body was committed to Mother Earth.
Her remains had lay-in-state at her Adeola residence followed by a brief stop over at the Sapele office of the Nigerian Red Cross Society.
A requiem mass held in her honour at the Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church Sapele where Reverend Father Michael Obudu the deceased as a woman who had a sincere and uncommon love for God and humanity.
The cleric said he was convinced that God called the deceased home at her prime because she has done well and needed to come to the paradise for eternal glory.
He charged her children and thecongregation to live for Christ to be able to make heaven as no one could tell when death would come.
Reverend Father Obudu said she would be greatly missed by the parish and all the societies she belonged to in the church.
The service featured special prayers for a peaceful repose of her soul and for unity in the family she left behind.
At a reception after interment, the children of the deceased and family members danced round to welcome guests who came to bid their mother farewell to the land of all souls.
In an interview, some of her children, in-laws and family members, including the Chairman of Ethiope West local government, Honourable Solomon Golley and his wife Eseoghene, said she was a role model and a true Christian by all standards.
They thanked God for giving them a rare gem as mother and best friend and promised to uphold the virtues she had bequeathed to them.
The event had in attendance politicians from all parts of the state and beyond, the management and staff of Delta Broadcasting Service Asaba, academic giants, industrialists and clerics from the orthodox and unorthodox churhes.
A service of songs was earlier held in her honour where encomiums were poured on her for maximizing her earthly sojourn and resources for the propagation of the gospel of Christ and the wellbeing of the downtrodden.
The officiating priest Reverend Father Tega Adakre and other speakers encouraged her children not to mourn, but uphold the good legacies she left behind as a way to immortalize her name.
The burial ceremony was rounded off with a thanksgiving service at Saint Patrick Catholic Church Sapele where her children and family members, joined by parishioners, appreciated God for a woman that affected humanity positively.
Late Bridget Orukamayan who died on the 24th of March 2019 was aged 61. She was until her death a community leader, a member of the Nigerian Red Cross Society and a philanthropist. She is survived by seven children, 22 grand children and other relations amongst whom is Mrs Jennifer Ejime Udueme of Delta Broadcasting Service Asaba.
